This study investigates how students enrolled in the Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology (BTI) at the Federal Rural University of the Semi-Arid Region (UFERSA), Pau dos Ferros Campus, use and perceive Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools in learning and software development. The research was conducted through a structured survey comprising 18 questions, answered by 72 students. The instrument examined the frequency and purposes of AI use, the tools employed, practices for validating AI-generated responses and code, and participants’ perceptions of productivity, learning, autonomy, dependence, the job market, academic practices, and potential curricular adaptations. The results suggest that students perceive GenAI as a relevant tool for supporting learning and software development, while recognizing challenges related to autonomy, dependence, critical validation, and educational practices.
