Research is a vital part of higher education and depends on effective collaboration between supervisors and supervisees. This qualitative study explored factors affecting supervisor-supervisee relationships at MPhil and PhD levels, including individual, human, social, and institutional influences. Data were collected through interviews and focus groups with 35 participants. Findings showed that strong relationships are built through time investment, positive attitudes, research knowledge, and regular interaction. The quality of research is influenced by both the supervisor-supervisee relationship and discrepancies of institutional procedures. This study explores the factors that make research difficult for students and identifies gaps in research design and support. Its findings will help students, supervisors, and institutions to address challenges, reduce research-related stress, and improve the quality of research work and also recommends supportive practices that encourage innovative, high-quality research and help researchers meet global standards.
