Pulvinaria psidii Maskell is a widely distributed and highly polyphagous scale insect commonly occurring in tropics and subtropics. The species is redescribed based on newly collected adult female specimens from India. Specimens were collected from Mimusops elengi Linnaeus in West Bengal and Dieffenbachia seguine (Jacq.) Schott in Kerala, representing two new host plant records for the species. A detailed morphological redescription and illustrations are provided based on the Indian material, together with diagnostic characters useful for species identification. In addition, a partial sequence of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene was generated to support species identification. The morphological and molecular data provide an updated account of P. psidii from India and contribute to a better understanding of its host associations and geographical distribution.
