A mild catalytic PhI/mCPBA/TFA system promotes hypervalent-iodine-mediated polar electrophilic cyclization of N-(arylsulfonyl)-O-alkylhydroxylamines, affording functionalized benzo[c][1,2]oxazines. Chemoselective N–O hydrogenolysis of these heterocycles provides a concise, protecting-group-free route to aromatic amino alcohols.
