OBJECTIVE: Potentially psychologically traumatic events (PPTEs) exposures are an inherent part of police work and a risk factor for posttraumatic stress injuries that may impact the mental health of police officers during their first year of service. The present study examines PPTE exposures experienced by Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) during their first year of service and examines associations with anxiety-, depressive-, and trauma-related mental health disorders. METHOD: tests, one-way analyses of variance, and multivariate logistic regression models. RESULTS: s < .05). CONCLUSIONS: The present study highlights the substantial number of PPTEs experienced by RCMP during 1 year of service that may increase the risk for mental health disorders, underscoring the need for continuous evidence-based supports to mitigate the impact of PPTEs.
