Creating a digital nomad ecosystem: an ethnography of sensemaking in Argentina

This study explores the creation of a complex meta-organizational structure in Buenos Aires, Argentina to attract location independent remote workers and entrepreneurs known as digital nomads. In this project, I combine a one-month rapid ethnography with 14 in-depth interviews with stakeholders representing digital nomads, city planners, and professionals who work in related industries. I utilize sensemaking to explore how these participants understand the process of creating a new type of organizational structure. The themes, which emerged as extracted cues in the dataset, include the function of the structure itself, the usage of digital tools, and community building. This project examines digital communication in professional spaces within a multicultural setting outside of an English-speaking context.
