Supply chain digitalization and key core technology innovation: the enabling role of AI application

This study investigates the impact of supply chain digitalization (SCD) on key core technology innovation (KCTI) and its mechanisms using data from Chinese A-share listed firms over 2014–2024. Results indicate that SCD significantly promotes KCTI. Mechanism analysis reveals that enhanced AI application serves as the core transmission channel. Environmental uncertainty (EU) negatively moderates this relationship, weakening the SCD effect as turbulence intensifies. Heterogeneity shows that the SCD effect is more pronounced with greater supply chain finance support and more intense market competition. These findings highlight the critical role of supply chain digitalization and AI application in fostering technological self-reliance, offering actionable implications for innovation strategies and policy design.
