This paper examines individual psychological and social factors associated with adolescent deviant behavior through an analysis of selected scientific publications. It considers the interplay of self-regulation, emotional responses, peer influence and family communication. The analysis emphasizes that no single psychological characteristic inevitably determines deviant behavior. School-based prevention priorities include assessment of individual circumstances, cooperation with parents and development of social and emotional skills. The paper presents a theoretical analysis and does not report an independent empirical study.
