The rapid growth of hologram technology has not only changed communication but also opened doors for highly immersive and intuitive learning environments for higher education. This cutting-edge review provides a comprehensive overview of the impact of holographic technology on K-12 and higher education. It examines how three-dimensional (3D) visualization and telepresence are changing instruction methodologies and highlights the features, working principles, application scenarios, advantages, and challenges faced in the adoption of holography in education. Drawing on recent advancements in optical engineering, artificial intelligence (AI), and extended reality (XR), this study explores how holographic technology facilitates higher student engagement, interactive learning, and deeper conceptual understanding. It also highlights that holographic instructions can improve the motivation of the learner and develop and enhance learner accessibility through distance learning. Through illustrative cases, the paper points to the global implementation of holographic sessions, medical simulations, and international telepresence classrooms, demonstrating that this technology not only makes education more engaging but also more inclusive. This review presents a framework for integrating technology and pedagogy in which it relates the capabilities of optical holography, volumetric displays, augmented and mixed reality, and pseudo-holograms to course delivery methods, desired learning outcomes, and implementation conditions. Nevertheless, several challenges persist, including the complexity of technology, excessive costs of purchases and maintenance, limited scalability, and lack of well-defined instructional models to guide integration of these technological interventions. Future studies may be directed to the main task of integrating various AI-driven adaptive learning systems, 6G-enabled communication infrastructure, and eco-sustainable display technologies to boost personalization, interactivity, and efficiency. This review aims to provide an overview of the advantages and limitations of educators and other stakeholders implementing these technologies in teaching and learning processes. According to the research, the use of holography in conjunction with curriculum design and instructional strategy can be a powerful means to transform the education of the new generation, making the experience of virtual and physical learning environments more alike.
