As an emerging field in science ethics, ecological ethics recognises the values of human and nonhuman nature and the ethical dimension to various ecological relationships. More than a decade after the promulgation of the encyclical, Laudato si’, its teachings, principles and reflections are far from being realised. Ironically, the current global environmental degradation continues to accelerate at a faster pace. In response to the global ecological crisis, Laudato si’ centres on its notion of integral ecology, which offers a transformative theological, ethical, and pedagogical framework. This paper analyses Laudato si’s conceptual elaboration of integral ecology as a moral and pedagogical principle, ultimately providing a framework for an Ecological Ethics Education in the Philippines.
