Rubber asphalt usually emits some pungent odourous fumes, which are harmful to humans. Its composition and release laws were analysed in this study. Using the microanalysis technique and Pyrolysis Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry, the highest content of rubber asphalt fumes at high temperatures was siloxane, followed by esters and thiazole, also containing lower concentrations of olefins, alcohols, ethers, and naphthalene. The release features of six gas components at room temperature and the generation mechanism of sulphur-containing gases, especially hydrogen sulphide, which iare polluting and harmful to human health from a microscopic perspective, were analysed. Rubber asphalt fumes were evaluated based on benzothiazole, carbonyl sulphide, and hydrogen sulphide for odour, and benzothiazole and naphthalene for toxicity. The release patterns of hydrogen sulphide and particulate matter were analysed, with particulate mass and H2S concentration serving as quantitative indicators.
