We theoretically propose an analytical method to describe transverse second harmonic generation (TSHG, or termed as surface emitting SHG) from the lithium niobate (LN) waveguide. We numerically calculate normalized conversion efficiency of TSHG and its dependence on waveguide dimensional parameters and wavelengths. It is shown that the maximum normalized conversion efficiency is up to 10 -5 % W -1 at 1064 nm for LN waveguide. Our results provide a useful reference for constructing on-chip nonlinear optical conversion devices.
