Digital transformation requires school leaders to respond to technological change amid uneven infrastructure, differing teacher readiness, and limited resources, yet few qualitative studies show how elementary school heads in rural Philippine settings experience this work. This study explored the testimonies of elementary school heads on adaptive digital leadership, namely the reasons for adopting it, the challenges encountered, how the challenges were managed, and their recommendations to other elementary school heads. A qualitative interpretive phenomenological design was used. Sixteen elementary school heads, four from each of the Quezon I, II, III, and IV Districts of the Schools Division of Bukidnon, were purposively selected, interviewed through a semi-structured guide, and analyzed thematically. Four emerging themes were identified: adaptive digital leadership as a catalyst for responsive and future-ready school transformation; navigating interconnected barriers toward sustainable digital transformation; adaptive and collaborative leadership for sustainable digital transformation; and people-centered and strategic adaptive leadership for sustainable digital transformation. The elementary school heads adopted adaptive digital leadership because of communication and data needs, pandemic disruption, policy expectations, limited resources, and a desire to prepare their schools for the future. They faced human, technological, infrastructural, financial, and inclusion-related barriers, which they managed through peer mentoring, gradual and consultative change, resource sharing, stakeholder partnerships, contingency planning, and data protection. The study concludes that adaptive digital leadership is a people-centered and strategic process that depends on sustained training, infrastructure, and technical support.
