What is the long-term survival and what are the predictors of mortality following surgical resection of primary cardiac tumors?
Patients with primary cardiac tumors (including cardiac myxomas) undergoing surgical resection
Surgical resection
General population (for the cardiac myxoma subgroup)
Long-term survival / mortalityhard clinical
Surgical resection of primary cardiac tumors yields excellent long-term survival, which is comparable to the general population for patients with cardiac myxomas.
Surgical resection of primary cardiac tumors is associated with excellent long-term survival; patients with cardiac myxomas have survival characteristics that are not significantly different from that of a general population. Predictors of mortality are primarily related to tumor histology but also include clinical characteristics such as symptomatology and duration of CPB.
