On the geometry of warped spacetimes (Carot, Jaume; da Costa, J. ) invariant characterization of warped spacetimes is given and a classification scheme for them is proposed. Some results on the curvature structure (Petrov and Segre types of the Weyl and Ricci tensors) are given and a thorough study of the isometry group that each class of warped spacetime may admit is carried out.
