This paper reviews the strategic change literature from three lenses: the rational, incremental, and cognitive lenses. General empirical patterns, contradictions, and overall strengths and weaknesses are identified for each lens. An integrative theoretical framework for understanding strategic change is developed and used to motivate two overarching questions for future research.
