Dual‐chamber pacing was developed to overcome the symptomatic and hemodynamic deficiencies of single‐chamber ventricular pacing. It was later suggested that the benefit of dual‐chamber pacing with activity was not because ofAV synchrony but because of the ability to increase rate. It is suggested that the benefit of dual‐chamber pacing has been underestimated by lack of an appropriately programmed AV delay.
