This review summarizes early literature on the molecular biology and pharmacology of angiotensin AT2 receptor antagonists and their potential therapeutic applications.
The primary and patent literature (through mid-1994) describing advances in AT2 receptor molecular biology and agents that interact with the angiotensin AT2 receptor subtype is reviewed. In vitro structure-activity relationships are summarised for both AT2-specific antagonists and balanced AT1/AT2 antagonists. Literature reports describing functional correlates for AT2 receptors are tabulated, and potential therapeutic utilities resulting from pharmacological intervention at AT2 receptors are discussed.
