Ideal location: The active oxygen for CO oxidation on Au/TiO2 catalysts is a highly stable oxygen species, whose formation is facile and hardly activated. This species is proposed to be surface lattice oxygen at the perimeter of the Au–TiO2 interface, activated by the presence of the Au nanoparticle. At higher temperatures, thermally activated Olatt migration also gives access to adjacent Olatt species. Detailed facts of importance to specialist readers are published as ”Supporting Information”.
