Abstract What do parents, teachers and students in secondary education currently believe to be the moral task of the teacher and how do they think about the 2 dominant concepts in educational theory: transfer of values and value communication? A survey study among teachers, parents and students, and group interviews show that the 2 different methods, transfer of values and value communication, are both important in educational practice. Teachers try to combine these models in their educational practice: Teachers at the same time broaden the students' skills to communicate and they show values which are important for the teachers themselves.
