Brillouin optical-fiber frequency-domain analysis is a new sensing technique for the distributed measurement of temperature and strain. Extensive theoretical investigations and experimental results of distributed temperature and strain measurements demonstrate the feasibility of this new concept. In an experimental demonstration, a spatial resolution of 3 m was achieved for a 1 km-long single-mode fiber.
