Advances in the theory of wave propagation and source mechanism have coincided with the recent deployment of a global network of digitally recording seismographs, the GDSN (Global Digital Seismograph Network). We demonstrate that broad-band records of body-wave ground displacement and velocity with spectral information from several hertz to tens of seconds can be obtained by the simultaneous deconvolution of the long-and short-period components of the GDSN seismographs. Frequencydependent effects in body waves that may arise from source complexity or from propagation through the Earth are much more apparent and measurable in the broad-band records than in the original seismograms.
