Total cardiac denervation significantly reduces the incidence of arrhythmias following coronary occlusion in a canine model.
In 10 normal awake dogs coronary occlusion produced frequent premature beats in all dogs and ventricular tachycardia in nine of the 10. After total cardiac denervation coronary occlusion failed to produce arrhythmias in eight of 10 dogs.
