A Comparison of Psychiatric Symptom Frequency Under Narrative and Check List Conditions

The authors investigated the effect of the frequency with which descriptive items are used when a check list is substituted for the usual narrative history. The results of the study suggest that rather than resulting in a loss of descriptive information the check list produced a sizable increase in the use of such terms.
