Abstract In the struggle between capitalism and freedom, socialism, and revolution, Habermas sides with the Church. Whereas once the mythology interpreting and directing the roads to heaven and hell was engineered by bloodless, ascetic priests, today that job has been taken over by the professors. Only now do control and authority awaken the anemic humanism of their yapping pets under the guise of “rationality”; in the heyday of the Church, men were at least offered the illusion of an afterlife of pleasure and happiness. Today, “rationality” falls within the efficient movement of nothingness from nothingness to nothingness in the name of power and taste.
