The Life Cycle of Cyclops strenuus strenuus Fischer in a Small Pond

Cyclops strenuus strenuus Fischer is generally found in small freshwater habitats. Knowledge of its distribution, geographically and ecologically, is partly obscured by difficult taxonomy but it is considered to be widespread. This difficult taxonomy of the strenuus group of cyclopoid copepods, in which morphometry plays an important role, has been studied by various authors from Schmeil (1892) to the present time. Observations on the morphometry and life-cycle of a pond-dwelling population of C. strenuus strenuus, together with experimental observations on breeding and development, have been made and compared with similar observations by previous authors.
