The article studies the measures taken in the United States to stimulate consumption of locally produced products, export growth and increase in employment. It gives overview of the support tools created for this purpose. Special attention is paid to D. Trump's decree "Buy American and Hire American" of April 18, 2017. The authors conclude that its implementation gave impetus to the development of iron and steel, aluminum, cement and other industries, improved the trade balance with a number of countries, created more favorable environment for the activity of American business and new jobs. At the same time, protectionism entailed an increase in the prices for certain goods, fueled tension in relations with many business partners, especially with China. Their retaliation measures are fraught with financial losses for the United States and competitive risk for American companies in foreign markets.
