The rapid development of high technologies and widespread access to a variety of information place a demand on a person for the constant growth of his professional skills and mobility. During his life, a person is forced to constantly improve his qualifications, master new technologies and skills, and sometimes even change his professional field. According to experts, the most successful in the labor market will be those who are able to constantly learn, think critically, effectively analyze situations, make independent and responsible decisions, foresee their consequences, as well as work in a team, communicate in a multicultural environment and have an understanding of modern requirements and skill.The research competence of future teachers of history and social science disciplines is a key element of their professional training in the modern conditions of the educational system. This article aims to consider the peculiarities of the formation of research competence in future teachers, in particular in the process of professional training.The primary task is to analyze the definitions of research competence and its role in the professional activity of a history and social science teacher. Next, the methods and strategies of the formation of this competence during professional training are considered, in particular, the study of the theoretical foundations of scientific research, the practical application of the acquired knowledge in research projects, the development of analytical skills and critical thinking. Equally important is the participation of future teachers in scientific events, cooperation with experienced scientists and teachers, as well as their own scientific development through publications and reports.Research competence is a set of personal and professional qualities of a specialist, which reflects his interest in scientific research, the level of mastery of the methodology of pedagogical analysis, as well as personal characteristics of the researcher, including innovative thinking and the ability to do creative and innovative work.All these aspects of the formation of research competence take into account the specifics of the professional activity of teachers of history and social studies, as well as the requirements of the modern educational environment. Consideration of these issues helps to identify and substantiate the optimal methods and approaches to the training of future teachers of history and social studies, which contributes to the improvement of the quality of their professional activity and compliance with the modern requirements of the educational system.
