It is with great pleasure that we extend our warmest welcome to the inaugural edition of the Workshop on AutoML in Pervasive Sensing Systems (AutoMLPerSys 2024).As chairs of this workshop, we are thrilled to bring together experts and researchers, from around the world to explore the latest advancements, challenges, and opportunities in automated machine learning (AutoML) within the context of pervasive sensing systems. We provide a platform for Academia and Industry to collaborate on AutoML solutions for pervasive computing systems, while exchanging insights on overcoming challenges and maximizing benefits of automation in AI system design. The field of pervasive sensing holds immense potential to revolutionize various domains, from healthcare and smart environments to transportation and urban planning. With the integration of AutoML techniques, we aim to accelerate innovation and drive forward the development of intelligent sensing systems that can adapt, learn, and optimize in real-time.The program committee of AutoMLPerSys 2024 has reviewed the received paper submissions carefully, considering both the quality of work as well as their relevance to the core theme of the workshop. In our first edition of the workshop, the technical program includes a total of 4 technical papers that were selected out of 8 submissions. We are also happy to announce the following two keynotes: by Prof. Philippe Lalanda on "Automating AIoT in Industry 4.0" and by Mr. Swarnava Dey on "AutoML for TinyML".We would like to thank the TPC members and Program Co-Chairs for providing detailed and impactful reviews, which helped us create a program with high quality research work relevant to AutoML in pervasive sensing systems and edge devices. We would like to thank the members of the Advisory Committee for sharing their experiences, inputs and insights throughout the process. We would also like to thank the PerCom organizers and the workshop chairs for all their help and support. Finally, we would like to thank the authors who have contributed their high-quality manuscripts to this workshop.Once again, welcome to AutoMLPerSys 2024.We look forward to an enriching and inspiring workshop experience with all of you.
