The article provides a brief description of the development of cross-border cooperation between the regions of the Russian Far East and northeast China, and examines the sociolinguistic aspects of intercultural communication. Attention is drawn to the opportunities for social mobility that become available to the population of the regions in connection with international economic cooperation, and the importance of the educational institutions for such cooperation is emphasized. It is concluded that there is a natural need for friendly communication between peoples belonging to such different cultures, and that communication between the population of border regions is quickly restored, after some decline during the Covid restrictions.
