Purpose This study aims to explore the ramifications of a lack of human resources (HR) representation in corporate boardrooms. Design/methodology/approach The author draws upon her personal and professional experience as a director of human resources and as a board member for a corporation. Findings There is a fundamental misunderstanding of the strategic value that HR brings to the table. To thrive in the modern business environment, organisations must acknowledge this strategic value and actively involve HR professionals in high-level decision-making processes. Originality/value This study makes a strong and compelling case for HR’s involvement in high-level decision-making in the boardroom.
