Introduction. The respiratory system is one of the leading parameters that determines the adaptive capabilities of the body, therefore the relevance of assessing the level of functioning of the respiratory system among students who came to study in Kyrgyzstan is undeniable and is determined by the significance of their effective adaptation to the new environment. The purpose of the study is to assess the functional state of the respiratory system of foreign students at the initial stage of their adaptation to new living conditions. Research methods. The study involved 64 first-year foreign medical students. Assessment of the functional state of the respiratory and cardiorespiratory systems was determined by the basic and dynamic parameters of external respiration, resistance to hypoxia using the Shtange and Henche test. The Physical Activity Questionnaire was used to assess students' physical activity. Results. A study of the functional state of the respiratory system showed that there are ethnically determined features in the parameters of external respiration, which are confirmed in literary sources. Low vital vitality indicators were noted in male students with a hyposthenia, dolichomorphic body type. The study found students with obstructive and restrictive disorders, although their percentage was insignificant and had its own explanation.
