Hydrogen-bonded liquid crystals (HBLC) have attracted attention as structures that expand the possibilities of LCs. Moreover, H-bonding is one of the ways to tune the physical properties of LC. In this review, fluoro-benzoic acids were added to the HBLC mixture to enhance the electro-optical properties of nematic LC. The dielectric constant, refractive index anisotropy, and the three elastic constants were determined in the nematic phase at room temperature. The threshold voltage of the HBLC cell was successfully reduced, indicating the potential for wider application of HBLCs.
