Lean manufacturing is considered a promising technology that can reduce costs and improve productivity in the automotive sector. Success in lean manufacturing requires industry efforts to be focused and sustained. Industry 4.0 uses improved communication, information, and forward-thinking technologies to build intelligent factory systems. This study examines the perceived relationship between Smart manufacturing/ 4 th Industrial revolution and lean manufacturing/production and along with the impact of integrating lean transformation into 4 th Industrial revolution has a special focus on the Indian automotive sector. The article also presents a bibliometric analysis to identify future directions in this field of research. This article will point researchers and practitioners interested in Industry 4.0 and lean manufacturing in the right direction.
