This paper examines the life of Yun Seon-geo (1610-1669), a prominent figure among 17th-century Gihosarim scholars, with a focus on his scholarly activities. The study divides his life into pre- and post-Byeongjahoran periods, exploring his experiences as a scholar in Ganghwado, his role as a jingsa, and his practical engagement within the Gihosarim community. During the Byeongjahoran, Yun Seon-geo abandoned the pursuit of official positions and dedicated himself to scholarship. Despite being called upon by the central government, he consistently remained in Ganghwado, earning the nickname ‘sajoesin’ due to his unwavering commitment. This consistency reflected his Confucian spirit, prioritizing integrity over empty titles and superficial achievements. Yun Seon-geo inherited the scholarly traditions of Ugye Seonghon and Yulgok Yi I, embodying the practical philosophy of the Gihohakpa school. His life exemplified the application of scholarship to real-world contexts. He maintained lifelong friendships with fellow Gihosarim scholars, integrated Confucian principles into daily life, and actively promoted scholarship through educational endeavors. Yun Seon-geo’s pragmatic approach to learning and scholarly engagement provides valuable insights not only for his contemporaries but also as a foundation for studying literary transmission among later scholars and literati.
