Significance This comes amid heightened scrutiny of Rwandan support to the M23 rebellion in eastern DRC and plays on long-standing claims that the illegal minerals trade is a major driver of violence there. Impacts Mineral traceability programmes in eastern DRC have been much criticised for their performance and could face heightened scrutiny. Rwanda has already denounced DRC’s accusations, and will most likely vociferously reject any future accusations.
