The article provides an onto-epistemological analysis of N. Wiener’s theory of cybernetic systems, which con-siders the communicative connection between man and machine. It has been established that N. Wiener’s ide-as predetermined not only the development of man, but also society and existence as a whole, becoming widespread in the postmodern era in the post-industrial society. Comparing a person and a machine, the scien-tist noted that both are capable of performing basic functions related to information: storing, processing and transmitting data. Studying living things and machines N. Wiener emphasized that it is necessary to turn to the abstract level of research to determine the essential characteristics, avoiding the use of superficial scientific approaches. The society, according to the theory of N. Wiener, is a synthesis of the living and the cybernetic things, which de facto correspond to the society of the twenty-first century. Both the first and the second are dy-namic components of digital reality, which is reflected in both offline and online forms of existence.
