The article deals with topical issues related to the state and non-state systems of providing citizens with free legal aid. The author emphasizes the importance of social support for certain segments of the population, provided in the form of ensuring the availability of legal services. The article points out that the Institute of Free legal aid is an interdisciplinary institute. However, to date, this legal institution has not been adequately regulated by legislation. According to the author, it is necessary to structure the system of providing free legal aid, systematize its types and scope, the powers of the entities providing such assistance, as well as resolve issues of state participation in providing such assistance, quality control of such assistance. These changes and additions, according to the author, will contribute not only to the optimization of current legislation, but also to the improvement of the provision of free legal assistance.
