The fundamental role of parents in the learning process of students with intellectual disabilities (ID) is indisputable. This study aims to analyze how parental involvement contributes to the educational development of these students, while identifying the most effective strategies and the barriers that hinder their involvement. For this purpose, an exhaustive literature review and an analysis of empirical studies published in the last decade were carried out. In addition, surveys were implemented for parents in the Northern District of the city of Quito. The results obtained were subjected to analysis using the statistical tool SPSS software. Among the findings, significant barriers stand out, such as low participation and lack of parental support, as well as limited resources and time for communication between parents and teachers in the educational process of students with intellectual disabilities. These results highlight the need to implement strategies that promote greater parental involvement and more effective collaboration among the educational community.
