Uganda’s National Teacher Policy (NTP) aims to bolster the teaching profession and enhance education standards nationwide. Despite its ambitious goals, uncertainties persist regarding its effectiveness. This study evaluated the NTP through a systematic review of literature and policy documents, revealing key findings on its alignment with educational objectives, addressing critical challenges, promoting inclusivity and equity, implementing mechanisms, and ensuring resource sufficiency. While the NTP represents significant progress in aligning educational goals with broader national development aspirations, persistent uncertainties underscore the need for further investigation. Overcoming challenges in clarity, coherence, resource allocation, and support mechanisms is essential for realizing the NTP’s objectives. Uganda can leverage its NTP to advance sustainable national development and cultivate a competent and motivated teaching workforce by continually adapting to changing contexts and adhering to global standards.
