This study explores the intricate relationship between women's employment and education in India post the economic liberalization of 1991, with a focus on contributing to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).The analysis draws upon data from various rounds of the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) Employment and Unemployment Surveys (EUS) and Periodic Labour Force Surveys (PLFS), covering the period from 1993 to 2022.The research examines trends in Women's Labour Force Participation Rates (LFPR) and gender disparities, alongside the evolution of women's educational attainment. The findings reveal persistent gender disparities in LFPR despite economic progress, highlighting the challenges hindering women's full participation in the workforce.Rural-urban disparities and the widening gender gap underscore the complexity of these challenges. However, positive trends in women's educational attainment, including an upward trajectory and a narrowing gender gap, suggest progress in educational opportunities.Furthermore, the study uncovers a nuanced relationship between education and LFPR, characterized by a Ushaped pattern wherein both illiterate and highly educated females exhibit higher LFPR.This underscores the need for targeted policies and interventions to address persistent challenges and foster gender equality in the labor market. The study contributes to SDG 5 (Gender Equality) and SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by identifying and analyzing gender disparities in labor force participation and educational attainment.By highlighting the crucial importance of expanding women's access to higher education, given their high LFPR rate, policymakers and stakeholders can address these disparities and promote gender equality, economic empowerment, and sustainable development. This approach not only helps in mitigating gender gaps in labor force participation but also drives economic growth and sustainable development by unlocking the full potential of the female workforce.
