The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of social withdrawal on school adjustment in fourth-grade elementary school students. The moderated mediation effects of parental expectations and self-resilience on this relationship were examined. For this purpose, a sample of 2,000 students (1,000 males and 1,000 females) was analyzed from the 4th year of the first panel of the Korean Child and Youth Panel Survey. First, mean, standard deviation, skewness, kurtosis, and correlation analysis were conducted to examine the descriptive statistics and correlation between the variables. The results of the correlation analysis showed that social withdrawal was inversely related to school adjustment. Second, the statistically significant moderated mediation effects of parental expectations and self-resilience between social withdrawal and school adjustment were verified. Third, based on these results, we discuss the moderated mediating effects of parental expectations and self-resilience on the effects of social withdrawal on school adjustment in fourth-grade elementary school students.
