Sustainable housing is one of the most important challenges of contemporary urbanism. Housing models that are recognized for their sustainability are an important element in creating a socially just and environmentally sustainable environment. These models include social, affordable and non-profit housing, which are aimed at providing accessible and high-quality housing conditions for all social groups. With the growing need for social, affordable and non-profit housing solutions, sustainability is becoming a determining requirement in the design and construction of residential buildings. The paper analyzes the legal and economic frameworks, as well as the implementation of sustainable practices in the urban environment in Serbia and on examples from different countries, new financing models and the use of innovative building materials. Concepts and strategies that contribute to sustainability in these types of housing are being explored, with particular attention focused on architectural and urban models and innovative approaches that can improve the quality of life of users and reduce negative environmental impacts.
