The article is devoted to the comprehension of the “Russia and the West” problem by Russian conservatives. During the reign of Nicholas I, Russia and Russian society experienced a series of powerful clashes with Western civilization, through which ideas about their own national identity and the nature of relations with the West were formed. The conservatives subjected to deep analysis such phenomena as internal and external Russophobia, Russian Westernism, Russia and Western revolutions, the uniqueness of Russia’s historical path. The achievements of Russian conservatives during the reign of Nicholas I in understanding the theme of “Russia and the West” gave powerful impetus to the creativity of future generations of conservative thinkers
