Motivation is an important component of the educational process of students, as it determines the level of their desire and involvement in physical culture. Motivation encompasses a variety of factors - from internal aspirations and values to external stimuli and conditions. Increasing motivation for volleyball in extracurricular activities at school is an integral part of educational work and one of the forms of organizing group work for students in grades 9–11. The purpose of the study is to substantiate and experimentally verify the effectiveness of the methodology for forming students' motivation for physical education. Methods used: analysis of literary sources, observations, conversations, questionnaires, pedagogical experiment, methods of mathematical statistics. The research was conducted in Lyceum No. 8, Zhytomyr city in 2023–2025, in which (EG – 26 students, CG – 27 students) participated. Assessment of the dynamics of motivation formation for physical exercise during lessons and extracurricular activities of students in grades 9–11 showed a significant increase in the number of students in the experimental group with a high level of motivation for physical education, in particular, for volleyball classes, namely: 34.6% (t = 4.58; P0.05). It has been established that systematic, consistent, and purposeful physical education activities outside of class can create a high level of interest, motivation, and positive attitude of students toward physical activity. Students believe that volleyball is an interesting and attractive form of physical activity, has a positive effect on the development of all physical qualities and is an important means of increasing motivation for physical activity.
