This study investigated the significance of digital evidence in modern criminal proceedings, highlighting its role in influencing investigative processes, judicial interpretations, and trial outcomes. The research was conducted using a qualitative design that relied on case law analysis, statutory review, and judicial interpretations across different jurisdictions. The findings revealed that digital evidence has become an indispensable component of criminal trials, offering critical insights into crimes involving cyber activity, fraud, and other technology-facilitated offenses. However, challenges emerged concerning the authenticity, admissibility, and preservation of such evidence, especially when legal systems lacked harmonized procedures. Issues such as chain of custody, jurisdictional discrepancies, and the vulnerability of digital data to tampering were identified as key barriers. Despite these concerns, the study confirmed that courts increasingly accepted digital evidence, provided it was collected and presented in compliance with established legal and forensic standards. The research emphasized the necessity of uniform guidelines, enhanced training for law enforcement and legal practitioners, and the integration of advanced technologies to safeguard evidentiary reliability. It was concluded that while digital evidence strengthens the capacity of the justice system, its effective utilization depends on balancing technological possibilities with legal safeguards, ensuring fairness, accuracy, and justice in criminal proceedings.
