The study set out to investigate librarian’s skills gaps and training priorities for librarians in digital library projects in federal university libraries in North-East, Nigeria. The study was guided by three research objectives which and three research questions were also raised based on the objectives. The study adopted descriptive survey research design. The population of the study was 163 librarians and sampling technique was not used because the population size was manageable. Data were collected via copies of questionnaire administered to the 163 librarians but 129 copies were retrieved and used for the study. X̄ and standard deviation were used to analyze data to answer research questions. The findings showed that training of librarians would mostly help to improve collection development and improved access to information resources, and that librarians need training in all listed areas, such as digital repository platform, digital literacy, information literacy skill, digital preservation, user education, telecommunication skills, among others. The challenges found were lack of awareness about emerging digital library technologies, insufficient resources, limited access to training, and so on. It was further found that the most effective approach to improve librarians’ training is through formal education as a strategy. The study recommended that librarians should be trained in digital preservation best practices, data management, data sharing, and open access principles, and so on, a provide formal education, seminar, workshop and conference for effective and efficient use of digital resources in the libraries.
