Abstract This article focuses on broadband initiatives to bridge the rural digital divide in Alaska and northern Canada, particularly those intended to reach unserved or underserved Indigenous communities. In the past few years, billions of government dollars have been allocated for rural broadband in the United States and hundreds of millions from Canadian government agencies. While research on the impact and sustainability of recently funded projects for Indigenous connectivity will take time, this article examines the challenges these projects may face and strategies to overcome or minimize them.
