Self-efficacy is an important factor affecting high school students’ academic achievement and mental health. Parental expectation, as a key factor of family environment, will have a profound impact on the development of high school students’ self-efficacy. The purpose of this paper is to systematically review the research on the relationship between parental expectations and high school students’ self-efficacy at home and abroad, sort out the existing research results, explore the relationship between the two and its mechanism of action, and point out the future research direction. The results show that: (1) There is a significant positive correlation between parental expectations and academic self-efficacy of high school students, that is, the higher the parental expectations, the stronger the academic self- efficacy of high school students; (2) There are differences in the influence of different dimensions of parental expectation on high school students’ self- efficacy, among which academic expectation has the most significant influence.
