Abstract The author is severely critical of the U. S. Forest Service. He believes that it suffers from a superiority complex which reacts against the best interests of "dirt" forestry, subjects foresters and forestry to ridicule and gives the private owner some cause for suspecting the real motives of the bureau. He writes: "There is no desire to break down the Forest Service, rather it is sought to break down the obvious smug self satisfaction and replace it with a constructive helpfulness."
